How to Change your Minecraft Server's Version

If you are looking to change the software of your Minecraft server (switching from Forge to PaperMC, from Java to Bedrock, etc.), please refer to this article.

  1. Go to the Software Changer section to make sure your server is assigned the correct software you want to install. For example, if you want to install a version of PaperMC make sure it is selected in Software Changer.

  2. (Optional) Go to the Backups section and create a backup. If you need more information you can refer to this article.

  3. Delete all files from your server, except the ones you want to keep. For example, if you don't want to delete the mods, delete all files except the mods folder. If you want to keep the world, delete all files except the “world” folder. If you are not sure if the mods, plugins or worlds may cause problems when installing the new version, delete them if you have a backup copy made.

  4. Make sure you have the correct Minecraft and Java version. To do this, log in to your server in our panel. Go to the Startup section. In the MINECRAFT VERSION field type the version you want (the software must have that version! For example don't try to install Paper 1.8 since it doesn't exist, only 1.8.8 exists) and in Docker Image select the appropriate java version:

    1. Java 8: for all Minecraft versions up to 1.15.x

    2. Java 16: for Minecraft 1.16.x and 1.17.x

    3. Java 17: for Minecraft 1.18.x

    4. Java 18: for Minecraft 1.19.x-1.20.x

  5. Still in Startup make sure that the SERVER JAR FILE field has the text “server.jar”.

  6. Then go to the Settings section and click the Reinstall button.

  7. Finally start the server.
